In response to South Africa’s escalating youth joblessness—with nearly 4.8 million young individuals currently out of work—specialist financier Business Partners Limited has introduced a R150 million SME Youth Jobs Fund.
Supported in part by the South African government via the Small Enterprise Finance Agency’s 21.6% equity stake, the fund targets established small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to lower the financial friction of hiring young workers aged 18 to 35.

SME Qualification Criteria
-
Track Record: Minimum of two years operating history with demonstrated solvency and financial viability.
-
Execution Plan: Clear roadmap illustrating how additional headcount directly enables capacity extension or operational expansion.
-
Compliance Requirements: Verification via formal employment contracts, registered SARS payroll filings, and ongoing audits after each tranche payout.
Business Partners Managing Director Jeremy Lang emphasized that because state departments and large corporations face budget and structural hiring constraints, agile SMEs remain South Africa’s primary vehicle for absorbing young talent into the productive economy.
