Youth Orientation for Development (YOD) UNESCO has unveiled Project D-100, a major digital empowerment initiative aimed at providing free, essential digital services to 100 schools and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) across Africa. Led by YOD UNESCO President Ambassador Emmanuel Ejiogu, the program’s core goal is to bridge the digital divide by equipping underserved institutions with the critical tools necessary to successfully operate and thrive in the modern, interconnected global economy. Godwin Iheuwa, Head of Digital Development at YOD UNESCO and the project’s originator, conceived the initiative to directly address the significant lack of digital visibility and online resources faced by many local businesses and educational bodies. The first phase will target 100 institutions, but the long-term, ambitious vision aims to digitally empower a massive total of 5,000 institutions across the continent, creating one of Africa’s largest community-driven digital transformation movements. Project D-100 is supported by a large, dedicated team of over 50 young creatives and technology enthusiasts who volunteer their professional skills in areas like web development, digital marketing, and content creation. Ambassador Ejiogu emphasized that the initiative aligns perfectly with YOD UNESCO’s mission of digital inclusion and community empowerment, specifically detailing the free services provided: website creation or enhancement, social media setup and optimization, branding support, content development, and digital mentorship. Furthermore, the project creates crucial skill-building opportunities for the young volunteers themselves. Registration for schools, SMEs, and volunteers is currently open on the project portal, allowing for participation at no cost. YOD UNESCO hails Project D-100 as a significant milestone, reaffirming its deep commitment to sustainable impact and digital empowerment across the continent.
