A derelict Sydney warehouse once bought for a fraction of its value has just been sold as a multi-million-dollar luxury compound, thanks to the children of two of Africa’s most successful emigrants.
Beau Neilson—daughter of South African-born investment tycoon Kerr Neilson and Zimbabwean billionaire philanthropist Judith Neilson—has officially sold her famous Chippendale residence, “The Pigeon Shed,” in a private deal worth approximately $8.5 million (A$13 million).
Back in 2012, Neilson bought the crumbling industrial building for just $2 million with financial backing from her parents. She then teamed up with MCK Architects to completely gut and rebuild the structure, turning it into a three-story architectural wonder complete with five bedrooms, an indoor swimming pool, a copper-clad internal elevator, and its own private art gallery.
While the Neilsons built their fortune in Australian equities and Sydney real estate, the family’s roots remain deeply tied to Africa. Judith Neilson still runs an active foundation funding critical healthcare, malaria prevention, and emergency medicine programs across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and East Africa, showing how the family’s global wealth continues to impact both hemispheres.
